I know it's been a month but I've been so busy...and lazy. But mostly busy. I've been protective styling like a maniac. It's easy and I get better every time. Plus I don't use as many products day to day...which is great because my pj urges get worse everytime I go into a store with any kind of products.

As you can see the color of the henna has taken to my hair great! It's a subtle color but it eases my urge to dye my hair.

Last week I finally did the style that started this protective style binge...I won't say I mastered it. I actually hated the back. But I was so proud and surprised at myself for getting the parts so straight. I think I just need to gather some patience when I'm doing these styles because the twists start out great but towards then end I get impatient and start grabbing too much hair so the ends become a huge chunk frizzy mess.

This is the style for this week. I started with the intentions of all of the front in flat twists, just something simple. But it turned out to be more complicated than I was intending. One side is flat twisted back, the middle is flat twisted to the side, and the other side is just loose flat twists. The ends of the middle flat twists got puffy so instead of redoing them I just pinned them all  to the back to create a kind of swoop. I kinda like it even though there's no balance to it. I want to keep the style for 2 weeks so I may make the other side into flat twists or something. But for now it stays.

I haven't had alot of time to spend on my hair (and frankly I don't want to). After reading on bglh that so many naturals have cut out alot of steps in their routine, the most notable being the DC, I've been trying to simplify things. This week I didn't prepoo or really do anything to my hair before shampooing. I just shampooed with my hair still styled. It turned out to be ok because I saved 30+ minutes on not pre pooing and the shampoo got to my scalp better.

Than I dc'ed (because I shampooed) and detangled as I took my hair out of the style. I applied my DC (generic Spanish store brand with added oil and honey) and then left it on while I ate breakfast. After breakfast I rinsed and ran an errand. Then I styled. Simple.

I'm proud of myself because I also used my shea butter(finally). I mixed shea butter, coconut oil,and aloe vera gel and whipped it with my rat tail comb. It makes my hair really shiny (and was the only product I used). So far I like it. Plus I can use it on my skin. It'll be good to alternate with the Oyin Burnt Sugar pomade (which smells better). I need some essential oils!
